Calendar of the Soul

Verses by Rudolf Steiner
English Translations by Tom Mellett

Thirty Ninth Week / Fourteenth Week

Here is the next pair of Calendar of the Soul verses for this week (#39) and its polar opposite (#14). Note how the verses have diverged from the lemniscate's crossing point at Michaelmas, (which is Verse #26 with Polar verse #27). We have passed Christmas (#38), which occurs right after the Winter Solstice and marks the bottom of the lemniscate. (St. John's Tide marks the top).

For the Easter 2000 to Holy Saturday 2001 cycle:
This week's verse (#39) has dates of: December 29 - January 4
The polar verse (#14) corresponds to the week: July 7 - 13

[Note: The dates with the verses are the original dates given by Steiner.]

                Christmas----------> 38-39  <-------(this week's verse)

M'.    39. Woche    (29. Dezember - 4. Januar)
An Geistesoffenbarung hingegeben
Gewinne ich des Weltenwesens Licht.
Gedankenkraft, sie waechst
Sich klaerend mir mich selbst zu geben,
Und weckend loest sich mir
Aus Denkermacht das Selbstgefuehl.

M'.    39th week:    (December 29 - January 4.)
Surrendered to the spirit's revelation,
I win back the light of cosmic being.
It grows and grows,
enlightening me,
to give my self back to me.

And this feeling of my self---
unravels itself
out of my strength
as a thinker.

N.    14. Woche     (7. Juli - 13. Juli)
An Sinnesoffenbarung hingegeben
Verlor ich Eigenwesens Trieb,

Gedankentraum, er schien
Betaeubend mir das Selbst zu rauben,

Doch weckend nahet schon
Im Sinnenschein mir Weltendenken.

N.    14th week:    (July 7 - July 13)
Surrendered to my senses' revelation,
I lose the urging of my own being.

The dream of thinking!
It appears---
dazzling me---
to rob my own self from me!

But in that sense appearance,
already fast approaching,
awakening me,
cosmic thinking.
